Hotel Pickup in Hue

Your driver meets you at your hotel in central Hue. Next, you board your private car to begin the journey.

Stop 1: Minh Mang Tomb (Approx. 1-1.5 hours)

First, you travel south to visit Minh Mang Tomb. You can walk through symmetrical gardens and quiet lotus lakes. Meanwhile, you will see stone statues guarding the grand honor courtyard. The peaceful forest surroundings make this a very calming stop.

Stop 2: Khai Dinh Tomb (Approx. 45–60 minutes)

Afterward, you head up Chau Chu Mountain to Khai Dinh Tomb. First, you climb the stone dragon steps up the steep hillside. Then, you step inside to marvel at colorful glass mosaics on every wall. You can also view the famous ceiling dragon painting up close.

Stop 3: Tu Duc Tomb (Approx. 1-1.5 hours)

Royal Tombs Overview

Minh Mang Tomb

Emperor Minh Mang was the second ruler of the Nguyen Dynasty. He ruled Vietnam from 1820 until 1841. He was well known for his strict rules and strong government. His personality shows clearly in the grand design of his tomb.

The tomb sits near the Perfume River in An Bang village. It spans nearly 28 hectares along a straight line. Builders followed strict rules of traditional geomancy, or feng shui.

The Honor Courtyard: Stone statues of mandarins, horses, and elephants guard this area.
Sung Duc Pavilion: This pavilion houses a large stone stele about the emperor.
Sung En Temple: People used this temple to worship the emperor and empress.
The Lakes: Stone bridges cross the water to reach the main burial mound.

The blend of wooden buildings and green gardens creates a peaceful atmosphere. Therefore, it remains a classic example of imperial architecture.

Khai Dinh Tomb

Emperor Khai Dinh ruled Vietnam during the French colonial era. He held power from 1916 until 1925. His tomb sits on Chau Chu Mountain and looks very modern.

To fund this project, the emperor raised taxes by 30% on local residents. The site is smaller than older tombs, but it climbs steeply up the hillside. Furthermore, the design mixes Western styles with traditional Eastern patterns. Builders used modern materials like concrete, slate, and wrought iron.

He designed his tomb complex as a peaceful getaway from state business. It sits inside a quiet pine forest in Duong Xuan Thuong village. As a result, the grounds feel more like a royal park than a graveyard.
