Built around 1826 under the reign of King Minh Mang, the Duyet Thi Duong Theater stands as <strong>Vietnam&#8217;s oldest royal stage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>King Minh Mang commissioned the space as an exclusive royal performance venue for the monarch, royal family members, high-ranking officials, palace maids, eunuchs, and foreign guests.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the nineteenth century, this stage served as the main home for traditional performing arts. The court hosted live classical Vietnamese opera, known as Tuong, alongside official Nguyen Dynasty court music, or Nh\u00e3 nh\u1ea1c. I like how these performances once entertained kings, though I do not like how close war came to destroying this treasure entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Over its nearly 200-year history, the building suffered severe damage from time and military conflict. However, dedicated archaeologists, architects, and artisans stepped in. They led a massive restoration period from 1995 to 2002 to save the original structure. Later, in March 2003, the theater officially reopened its doors to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Hue Imperial City Court Music and Dance Theater manages the venue.
